Yesterday's Workout

Well yesterday was fairly successful. I went to the pool for close to 30 minutes, just to get wet. I didn't do anything too exciting, I was mainly trying to stay above water. I felt pretty good after I got out, and decided I would lift while I was at work. I only 2 sets of each exercise instead of 3 because I wanted to get a move on my to do list. Here is my workout from yesterday.
2x12 @22.5lbs kneeling stability chops.
2x12 @2.5 (approx. 24lbs) standing cable hip abduction (super set with inverted row)
2x12 inverted row
2x12 single leg squat (super set with single arm standing chest press)
2x12 single arm standing chest press (20 and 25lbs, respectively)

After all of this I felt pretty good. I decided I need to return some of my Christmas presents and that is how I spent the rest of my day. Pretty productive.

Time to get Serious

So last week started my adventure of a 4 week kick butt exercise program. I am trying out this 4 weeks to a healthier you. Yes, I know what you are thinking, I am an health fitness specialist, I shouldn't need help in crafting an exercise prescription. I don't, but it is fun to take someone's advice from time to time. Let me tell you this program is a good program, and I trust the author.
Anyways, I will detail my weeks from here on out. So if anyone would like to follow along, or take some of the exercises, feel free.
I must say where I got these exercise though. I am using The Women's Health Big Book of Exercises by Adam Campbell.

Why Triathlete In Training

I guess I should explain why I picked the title Triathlete In Training. I have decided my next challenge will be a half Ironman Triathlon. I am really excited about this event. Presently it seems overwhelming, and like something I will never be able to accomplish.
This past summer my co-workers talked me into doing the Go Girl Triathlon. This is a sprint triathlon just for women. It is a great event for women to lose their triathlon virginity. We saw in Eagle Creek in Indianapolis for 500 meters, biked through Eagle Creek Park and out onto the side streets surrounding Eagle Creek for 10 miles, and finished with a 3 mile run. The first .25 mile was what seemed like a straight uphill climb. I never in a million years thought that I would be able to complete this. It doesn't seem like that much, but during each transition I thought what the hell was I thinking. I came to the finish line, giving every little bit of me that I had left, I crossed the finish line, hugged my family (mom, dad, aunt, and sister), and started crying. Not only did this triathlon symbolize a goal I never thought I could accomplish, but a bigger accomplishment. I had come so far in the past year with ending my relationship to a man I thought I was going to marry. I had graduated college, and was in a great job. I did all of this with the help and support from God, my family, and without my ex-boyfriend. It was an indescribable feeling.
I ended up finishing 3rd in my age group. I enjoyed the rush of doing the triathlon so much that I had to do another one. I decided to do the Fisher FAST triathlon. I was able to cut 8 minutes off my time, and finished 1st in my age group, another feat I thought I could never accomplish. For so long I was told I was slow, mistake prone, and I never amounted to anything as a volleyball player. I had been told no so many time as a volleyball player, and when I came in first, I was told yes. Corny, I know, but it was another experience I had never felt before. My boss completed this FAST triathlon with me, and came in 1st in her age group. After talking with her, and being encouraged by her, we decided to do a half ironman next summer.
